A 6.4 magnitude earth quake strike Croatia on 29th
of December 2020 due to which sinkholes appears in different parts of the country
causing fear and worries.
Sinkholes appears after seismic events and it is a normal thing
but the size and speed with which current sinkholes appears in farmland cause
worries in villagers.
In areas where the ground water eroded the bedrock below the
surface of earth to the point where it can’t withstand ground pressure than
sinkholes appears.
The main problem is of large number of sinkholes in small
area according to Stjepan Terzic, a chief engineer at Croatia’s National
Geological survey.
Croatian government has taken step to repair the sinkholes
and the farmers of the region are quite in trouble because of most of the
sinkholes in farmlands.
